The vision of Southern Ohio Survivors is quite simple.  We believe that a cancer survivor needs knowledge, support, and hope to face ongoing survivorship issues and challenges.

The inspiration for this volunteer organization began when a two-time cancer survivor, founder of SOS, realized that there were few ongoing programs specific to survivorship needs in Ross County and the surrounding areas.  As a volunteer for various well-known cancer organizations over the past 30 years, and recognizing that they all were making a positive difference in the lives of many, there was still a significant gap that needed to be filled.

SOS strives to inspire the people of southern Ohio to make a difference in the lives of cancer survivors through financial generosity and volunteer commitment.  Through fundraising and grants, SOS plans events to enhance the quality of life for cancer survivors and their families a they live with, through, and beyond their diagnosis.

Survivors face numerous physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and financial issues at diagnosis, during treatment, and for the remaining years of their lives.  Many of these issues are only recently being addressed through coordinated health initiatives. SOS believes in collaboration and works to avoid duplication of services with other organizations in southern Ohio.

SOS believes that early detection and treatment can save lives, and offers support to survivors that will empower them to advocate for their own health care needs and make cancer a national priority.  SOS fully supports all national organizations raising funds for cancer research, while trying to fill in the gaps for survivors in our local area regarding financial and daily survivorship needs.

In summary, the volunteers of Southern Ohio Survivors are effectively and comprehensively addressing cancer survivorship issues, while focusing on improving the quality of life for survivors in southern Ohio
