Beat Cancer Boot Camp is a nationally recognized exercise and support group program to empower and inspire cancer survivors to take charge of their lives. The Ross County YMCA is providing the physical location for this COMMUNITY PROGRAM - for strength, for health, for life. The YMCA and SOS are proud to have been instrumental in the implementation of the first two medically supervised granted programs for cancer survivors that can be found within a 65 mile radius. The former Strength in Motion program for Breast Cancer Survivors is now Basic Training Beat Cancer Boot Camp. It is open to ALL cancer survivors now - not just breast cancer. Also, you do not have to be a YMCA member to participate.
A cancer survivor DOES NOT have to be a part of the exercise component of Basic Training or the regular BCBC to participate in the monthly support groups or other activities for survivors and their families. Support group activities are open to all!
BASIC TRAINING and BEAT CANCER BEAT CAMP are NOT just for survivors. They are also for spouses, family members, friends, and anyone who wants to join in the battle against cancer. A key component to each Boot Camp is the supportive environment that will include luncheons, birthday celebrations, lectures, and other adventures (some AWOL) to build the camaraderie of the group. There will be monthly support groups that will host a variety of topics for both survivors and community members.
The program is open to the entire region surrounding Ross County. Again, the YMCA wants to stress that partnership with other community organizations is necessary to continue this program and make it accessible to all cancer survivors and their buddies. This program was made possible, in part, due to a generous grant from The Adena Foundation and Junior Civic Leage. Times are as follows: Tuesdays ON LAND, 5:30 to 6:30; Tuesdays IN THE POOL, 4:00 to 5:00; Thursdays in the AEROBICS ROOM, 4:00 to 5:00. For questions how to participate in the Beat Cancer Boot Camp, contact Dave Tener at the YMCA, 772-4340, or Lynn Bunstine at 703-5017 / 775-5600. Registration forms can be picked up at the YMCA front desk or downloaded from this site.
