The inspiration for this organization began when founder Lynn Bunstine was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007. She realized that while there were plenty of national organizations dedicated to finding a cure for cancer, there were few ongoing local programs specific to survivorship needs.
Survivors face numerous physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and financial issues at diagnosis, during treatment, and for the remaining years of their lives. Many of these issues are only recently being addressed through coordinated health initiatives.
Through the combined efforts of friends, family, local businesses, and other survivors, Southern Ohio Survivors now works to meet some of the basic hurdles survivors face such as reduced income, emotional turmoil, and necessary lifestyle changes to fitness and diet.
Southern Ohio Survivors is always looking for new ways to bridge basic needs for survivors and build greater awareness of cancer and other deadly health issues within the communities we serve. In addition to various fund-raising
and awareness events, we also host ongoing programs designed to aid, empower, and support Survivors in the Southern Ohio area.
